WHY WE BUILT THE I.C.EWE GOGGLE
And Why Ski Goggles Shouldn’t Cost What They Do
There’s a reason SnowShepherd went into eyewear.
Frustration.
Real frustration.
Not the fake marketing kind.
The kind that builds over years of riding, travelling, storm chasing and spending ridiculous amounts of money on products that still somehow don’t become your everyday go-to.
Honestly, between us, we must have owned over 20 pairs of goggles over the years.
Big names.
Premium models.
“Top of the range” everything.
And still… not one pair truly became the pair.
Some fogged up the second weather turned bad.
Some scratched too easily.
Some looked amazing but felt uncomfortable after two hours.
Others performed well but cost an absolutely insane amount of money.
And that became the question we kept coming back to:
Why are riders paying these prices for ski goggles?
Because when you really break it down, a lot of the industry has become built around branding, hype and inflated retail markups rather than actual rider-focused value.
So we decided to do something about it.
THE NAME: I.C.EWE
The name itself came together exactly how most great mountain ideas do.
Late at night.
In the Alps.
After a hard day riding in Sainte Foy… and maybe a glass of wine or two.
We were brainstorming names, throwing ideas around, trying to come up with something that actually felt different. Something memorable. Something unmistakably SnowShepherd.
Then Rob Hutchison our French manager simply said:
“What about the I.C.EWE?”
And instantly, it hit.
The name stuck immediately.
Partly because it stood out so much.
Partly because it sounded unique.
But mostly because it felt completely on brand.
It carried that SnowShepherd identity perfectly:
Mountain culture.
Humour.
Originality.
And not taking ourselves too seriously while still building serious products.
So credit for the name goes fully to Rob on this one.
And honestly, we couldn’t imagine calling them anything else now.
WE DIDN’T WANT TO MAKE “CHEAP” GOGGLES
That was never the goal.
The goal was to make genuinely premium goggles without the ridiculous premium price tag.
There’s a massive difference.
We weren’t interested in producing a budget product.
We wanted to build goggles that could genuinely stand beside the best-performing products on the mountain — without riders needing to spend £250+ to get them.
So instead of cutting corners, we went directly to a factory already manufacturing for some of the most recognised premium eyewear brands in the world.
The same production standards.
The same level of craftsmanship.
The same advanced lens technologies.
The same premium materials.
But without the marketing inflation.
That’s how the I.C.EWE Goggle was born.
BUILT BY RIDERS WHO WERE TIRED OF COMPROMISE
The biggest issue with most goggles is compromise.
You either get:
-
Great performance but ridiculous pricing
-
Affordable pricing but poor optics
-
Nice styling but weak durability
-
Comfortable fit but terrible ventilation
We wanted all of it.
No compromise.
The I.C.EWE Goggle was designed around the features we actually wanted as riders ourselves.
Not what looks good in a catalogue.
Not what trends say is popular this season.
Real mountain performance.
WHAT MAKES THE I.C.EWE DIFFERENT?
The reality is this:
If you stripped away logos and marketing campaigns, most riders would struggle to tell the difference between the I.C.EWE and goggles costing two or three times more.
Because feature for feature, the specifications are exactly where they need to be.
The I.C.EWE includes:
-
Magnetic quick-change lens system
-
Wide peripheral cylindrical lens design
-
Advanced anti-fog dual-layer lens technology
-
Triple ventilation airflow system
-
100% UV400 protection
-
Impact-resistant polycarbonate lenses
-
Helmet-compatible low-profile frame
-
Dual-density moisture-wicking face foam
-
Adjustable silicone grip strap
-
OTG compatibility for prescription glasses
-
Scratch-resistant lens coating
-
Low-light and high-contrast lens options included as standard
-
Eco-friendly hard case and microfiber pouch
These are the exact types of specifications riders now expect from “elite” level goggles across the industry.
And the truth is, many brands charging significantly more are offering extremely similar core technologies:
-
Magnetic interchangeable lens systems
-
Anti-fog dual-layer lenses
-
UV400 protection
-
Frameless wide-view designs
-
OTG compatibility
-
Triple-layer foam
-
Polycarbonate impact-resistant construction
So the real difference becomes:
How much are you paying for the logo?
PERFORMANCE FIRST. ALWAYS.
The I.C.EWE wasn’t designed for posing in lift queues.
It was designed for real riding.
Storm days.
Flat light.
Tree runs.
Powder laps.
Freezing chairlifts.
Changing visibility.
The kind of conditions where bad goggles ruin your day immediately.
That’s why clarity became everything.
The cylindrical lens design creates wide peripheral vision so riders can properly read terrain and react faster in technical conditions. The dual-layer anti-fog coating and triple ventilation system work together to prevent condensation and maintain visibility throughout the day.
And because mountain conditions constantly change, every I.C.EWE comes with two lenses as standard — including low-light and high-contrast options.
Because we ride too.
And nobody wants to carry expensive goggles that still can’t handle flat light properly.
BUILT TO LAST
Durability mattered just as much as optics.
The I.C.EWE uses impact-resistant polycarbonate lenses alongside scratch-resistant coatings designed to survive real mountain use — not just showroom handling.
The adjustable silicone grip strap keeps everything locked in place with helmets, while the dual-density face foam creates all-day comfort without pressure points.
Again, this is exactly the kind of construction riders expect from premium-level products across the industry.
The difference is:
We refused to inflate the price just because we could.
THE INDUSTRY HAS LOST TOUCH
Honestly, ski goggles should not cost what many brands now charge.
Somewhere along the way, eyewear pricing became disconnected from reality.
Marketing budgets exploded.
Athlete sponsorships exploded.
Retail markups exploded.
And riders ended up paying for it.
SnowShepherd wanted to bring things back to what actually matters:
Performance.
Quality.
Durability.
Real rider value.
That’s it.
No gimmicks.
No hype pricing.
No compromises.
Just premium goggles designed properly and priced fairly.
THE BEST FEEDBACK WE’VE EVER HEARD
Some of the best feedback we’ve received about the I.C.EWE has been simple:
“These are better than my expensive goggles.”
That means more to us than any marketing campaign ever could.
Because that was the goal from day one.
To create a product riders genuinely choose because it performs — not because they were told to buy it.
And once people actually ride them, they get it immediately.
THIS IS THE FUTURE OF SNOWSHEPHERD
SnowShepherd has always been about building products we genuinely believe should exist.
Products designed by riders who were tired of compromise.
The I.C.EWE Goggle is exactly that.
Premium performance.
Premium construction.
Premium optics.
Without the premium ego.
DON’T BE A SHEEP.
RIDE MORE. WORRY LESS.
